Alright, ladies (and gentlemen, because you need to listen up too!), gather ‘round! Today, we’re diving into something that’s so important: women and their role in God’s plan. Now, let me just say this from the start: women are not second-class citizens in God’s Kingdom. Far from it! Women are essential to bringing God’s Glory into this world, and I’m about to show you just how awesome your role is. So buckle up, because here we go!
God’s Design for Women: The Helper (And No, That’s Not a Dirty Word)
Let’s rewind to the beginning—Genesis 2:18. God says, “It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Hold the phone—helper? That sounds like a sidekick, right? Like Batman and… who? Robin. But let me clear something up for you: “helper” is not a “lesser-than” role. The Hebrew word used here is ezer, which means “strong support” or “rescuer.” You know, like the person who saves the day. Heroic!
So, ladies, when God says He made you a helper, it’s not a signal that you’re standing in the background holding the snacks. No, you are that person—the strong support who comes alongside and makes things happen. If the Holy Spirit is the “Helper” (John 14:16), then being called a helper? That’s actually a pretty big deal. You’re in good company!
Women in God’s Plan: The Real MVPs
Now, let’s talk about how crucial women are to God’s plan. Women have always been central to God's mission. I mean, if we’re looking at biblical history, we see Deborah, a prophetess and judge, leading Israel to victory (Judges 4-5). Or Esther, who risked her life to save her people. And let’s not forget Mary, who not only carried the Savior of the world in her belly (no big deal, right?) but also helped raise Him. Women have always been key players in God’s story. We’re talking about leading, saving, teaching, and making a huge impact!
Women are not just called to be great mothers—though, let’s be clear, that’s a holy calling! Women are also called to be teachers, leaders, warriors, and yes, sometimes even spiritual ninjas in God’s Kingdom. Proverbs 31:30-31 says,
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
Basically, if you fear the Lord, you’re a powerhouse. That’s what Proverbs is saying—go get your praise!
Strengths of Women in God’s Plan
Alright, let’s break down just how amazing women are in God’s plan. These aren’t just "superhero powers"—these are God-given strengths.
Compassion & Nurturing – Women have this deep, divine capacity to love and care for others. It’s like they have a built-in compassion superpower. 1 Thessalonians 2:7 says, "Like a mother caring for her little children." You might not be a mother yet, but you definitely have this nurturing spirit that comes in handy when someone needs a hug, a meal, or an ear to listen.
Wisdom – Some of the wisest people I know are women. Proverbs 2:6 says, "For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding." God’s got a special anointing for wisdom, and many women are filled to the brim with it. From everyday decisions to life-changing moments, women are equipped with a discernment that helps them see things clearly and make wise calls.
Multitasking Superpowers – Let’s be real: if you’ve ever seen a woman juggle kids, work, laundry, dinner, and still somehow manage to look presentable at the end of the day, you know she’s a multitasking superhero. Proverbs 31:15 talks about a woman who rises before dawn to provide for her family. Basically, she’s got the stamina of a marathon runner and the strategy of a general.
Perseverance – Women have this incredible ability to persevere. Just think about Ruth, who faced loss and hardship but kept moving forward with faith. Romans 5:3-4 says, “Suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Women seem to have this amazing ability to get through challenges with grace and strength.
But What Do Women Need to Watch Out For?
Alright, ladies (and gentlemen, don’t tune out yet!), let’s talk about the things women need to keep an eye on while walking with the Lord. We all need to check ourselves from time to time.
Comparison – Ladies, I know it’s hard not to fall into the comparison trap. We all scroll through Instagram and think, “I’ll never look like that” or “My house will never be that Pinterest-perfect.” But guess what? Stop comparing! 2 Corinthians 10:12 says, “When they measure themselves by themselves, they are not wise.” You are unique, amazing, and beautiful just as God made you. Don’t let anyone’s highlight reel make you feel less than.
Pride & Self-Worth – Sometimes we get so caught up in what we’re doing for others that we forget where our worth really comes from. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “It is by grace you have been saved…not by works, so that no one can boast.” Your worth is rooted in Christ, not how many tasks you can juggle or how perfectly you can serve others.
Neglecting Spiritual Growth – You can’t pour into others if you’re running on empty! John 15:4 says, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself.” Take time for your spiritual growth, prayer, and time in the Word. You need that connection to the Vine (Jesus) to keep producing fruit.
Overlooking Your Calling – Let me remind you: God has a divine purpose for you, whether it's in your family, your workplace, or your community. Don’t let fear or doubts hold you back. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” Step into your calling with confidence, because God’s got big plans for you.
Women in Leadership in the Church: Here’s the Deal
Okay, let’s talk about something that might make some of you raise an eyebrow. Women and pastors. Yes, we’ve seen some fantastic female leaders in the church (shout out to Priscilla!), but the role of pastor or elder is a position that Scripture reserves for men. Why? Well, let’s break it down.
Divine Order – From the start of creation, God established roles for men and women. In the church, the role of pastor or elder involves leadership, teaching, and authority over the congregation. Paul made it clear in 1 Timothy 2:12-14 that this responsibility is given to men, not because women are any less, but because this is part of God's created order.
Male Headship in the Family and Church – In Ephesians 5:22-33, husbands are called to be the head of the family, which mirrors the headship of Christ over the church. The church is often compared to a family, and just like a dad leads the family, the pastor (who is like a spiritual father) leads the church.
Scriptural Precedent – All the apostles were men. Jesus picked 12 men to be His closest followers, and they were tasked with leading the early church. That sets a precedent that continues in the roles of pastor and elder.
Conclusion: Women Are Essential to God’s Glory
Alright, here’s the bottom line: women are absolutely essential to God’s plan. You’re not secondary. You’re vital to the Kingdom. You have strength, wisdom, and a nurturing spirit that makes the church and the world a better place. So, while Scripture might reserve the pastoral office for men, that doesn’t mean your role is any less important. You’re the strong, capable helper that God created to be part of His incredible story!
So walk in confidence, knowing that your worth is found in God's design for you. You are a world-changer. And remember: God doesn’t make mistakes. He made you, and He has amazing things in store!
Amen!
