Alright, folks, buckle up because we’re about to take a deep dive into some heavy stuff today. We’re talking about Sodom and Gomorrah, the flood, and why we're living in biblical end times.
I know, sounds like the beginning of a disaster movie, right? But no, this is real life, and there are some serious parallels between those ancient cities and what’s going on in the world today. So let’s get into it, and I promise we’ll sprinkle in some humor to keep things from getting too heavy.
Why Did God Destroy Sodom and Gomorrah?
Let’s start with the basics. In Genesis 18, God tells Abraham that He’s planning to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because their sin has reached its peak. Now, these cities were known for their wickedness, idolatry, and sexual immorality. And I’m not talking about the occasional bad day. I mean, these places were full-on, round-the-clock evil, so much so that God was like, "Alright, that’s it. I’m bringing the hammer down."
Genesis 19 tells the story of two angels who go to Sodom to warn Lot and his family to get out, but the people of the city are so messed up that they try to assault these angels. Talk about a complete moral breakdown! In the end, God rains down fire and brimstone to destroy the cities, sparing only Lot and his family (and even that was a bit of a struggle).
Here’s the thing: Sodom and Gomorrah weren’t destroyed just because of one bad decision. It was the culmination of years and years of turning their backs on God, rejecting His laws, and indulging in sinful lifestyles without any repentance. They were so consumed by their immorality that they didn’t even recognize how far they had fallen.
Why Did God Flood the Earth?
Now let’s take a look at Noah’s Ark—a.k.a. the greatest floating zoo the world has ever seen. In Genesis 6, we find that humanity had gone off the rails. The Bible says that "the Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time" (Genesis 6:5). Imagine that: a world where every thought, every action, was evil. Talk about a bad neighborhood.
So, in His divine justice, God sends a flood to wipe out all of creation, except for Noah, his family, and the animals they saved. And we’re not just talking about a rainstorm here. This flood was massive—40 days and 40 nights of water pouring down from the heavens and bursting up from the earth. The earth was completely covered. Gone. Just like that.
Now, God wasn’t just throwing a temper tantrum. No, He was grieved by the evil that had overtaken the world. The flood wasn’t about punishment for punishment’s sake. It was about starting fresh—preserving the good (Noah’s family) and giving humanity a chance to rebuild. Unfortunately, humanity didn’t learn the lesson, and here we are thousands of years later, facing similar issues.
So, Why Are We Living in the End Times?
Let’s fast forward to today. If you haven’t noticed, we’re living in a time that’s starting to look suspiciously like Sodom and Gomorrah all over again. And no, I’m not just talking about bad TV shows or the rise of TikTok dances. I’m talking about the rampant sexual immorality and moral decay that’s happening all around us.
You don’t have to look far to see how sin has crept into every corner of society. Just take a look at the normalization of sexual immorality. Society has not only redefined what is right and wrong, but it’s also celebrating things that used to be considered sin. Whether it’s the rise of pornography, the normalization of homosexuality and same-sex marriages, or the demonic agenda of the LGBTQ in castrating children, the sexualization of everything from advertisements to children’s cartoons, it feels like we’re living in a constant state of “anything goes.” And just like Sodom, people are calling evil good and good evil.
And let’s not forget about how idol worship is alive and well today—just look at the way society puts celebrities, money, and power on pedestals. People worship status and pleasure rather than God. We're obsessed with our phones, with instant gratification, and with living our best lives—at the expense of the things that truly matter, like our relationship with God and our moral compass.
But here’s the kicker: Just like in Sodom and Gomorrah, God’s patience has limits. We can only reject Him, turn from His ways, and ignore His warnings for so long. And if you think God is just sitting up there on His throne going, “Oh well, you kids, just do your thing,” you’ve got another thing coming.
So, How Does This All Tie Together?
Here’s where it gets real, people: We are living in the end times. I know, you’ve probably heard this a hundred times. But just look around! The signs are everywhere. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 24 that the end times would be like the days of Noah and the days of Lot. And here’s what we see happening:
Widespread corruption: People are more focused on themselves than on God, and morality is being tossed out the window.
Increase in sexual immorality: Just like Sodom and Gomorrah, our culture has turned sexual sin into a norm.
People living in denial: They’re living their lives, enjoying pleasures, and ignoring the signs of the times. We’ve got people celebrating sin and acting like there will be no consequences. But there will be.
God didn’t destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because He hated the people there. He destroyed them because their sin was so entrenched that there was no repentance, no turning back. The same applies today—if we don’t turn from our ways, God’s judgment will come.
But here’s the good news: Just like with Noah, God is offering us a way out. Jesus is the Ark we can run to for salvation. He is the only way to escape the flood of judgment and to experience the grace and mercy of God. But we’ve got to choose Him. We’ve got to turn away from the distractions, the idols, and the sins that so easily entangle us, and choose to follow Christ.
Conclusion
So, where does that leave us today? We have two choices:
Ignore the signs and keep living for ourselves, just like the people in Sodom and Gomorrah. Or,
Repent, turn to God, and live in the freedom He offers through Jesus Christ.
Friends, God is not mocked. Just like in the days of Noah and Lot, the end will come—but it doesn’t have to be too late. Jesus is the way out. He’s the way to escape judgment and experience eternal life with Him.
Let’s not wait until it’s too late. Let’s turn to Jesus, repent of our sins, and live in the light of His truth. Let’s be the generation that says, “No more distractions, no more compromises—we’re following Jesus.”
Prayer
Father, thank You for Your grace and mercy. We see the signs around us, and we know that the world is heading in a direction that honors sin more than You. But God, we don’t want to follow that path. We choose You today. We repent of our sins and ask You to help us turn away from the distractions and the temptations that lead us astray. Help us to be a light in this dark world, shining Your truth and love wherever we go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Alright, folks, let's make the choice today to follow Christ and not get caught up in the distractions of Sodom and Gomorrah. The flood is coming, but so is the Savior. Let’s be ready!
