"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24 (ESV)
Brothers and sisters in Christ, have you ever paused to realize that today, this very moment, is the most important day of your life? The air in your lungs and the beat of your heart are not coincidences. They are divine gifts, reminders that God is not finished with you yet.
Each day we awaken is another opportunity to fulfill His purpose. We do not know the day or the hour He will call us home, but as long as we draw breath, we are called to live with intention, gratitude, and joy.
The Urgency of Today
Jesus Himself reminds us in Matthew 24:36 that
"about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."
This truth is not meant to instill fear but rather a sense of divine urgency. Imagine if we lived every day as if it were our last. Would we forgive more readily? Would we love more deeply? Would we share the message of salvation more boldly?
Today is not just another page on the calendar; it is a divine appointment. Your presence here, your breath, your ability to listen and receive this message—it all signifies that God has a plan for you at this very moment.
A Purpose for Every Breath
In Ecclesiastes 3:1, we are told,
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens."
If God has granted you this day, it is because there is work to be done. Perhaps there is someone who needs to hear a word of encouragement from you. Perhaps there is forgiveness that needs to be extended or a prayer that needs to be spoken.
Each breath carries purpose. Let us not squander the gift of today.
Living with Joy and Love
The world may offer countless distractions and discouragements, but as believers, we are called to rise above. Philippians 4:4 instructs us to
"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!"
Joy is not found in circumstances but in Christ. When we wake up each day, let our hearts declare, "Thank You, Lord, for another day to serve and glorify You!"
Let us also remember the words of 1 John 4:7:
"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God."
Our greatest calling each day is to love—to love God, to love our neighbors, and to reflect His love to a world that so desperately needs it.
Spreading the Message of Salvation
The most loving thing we can do with our time today is to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. We live in a world filled with people searching for hope and meaning. You may be the vessel God uses to plant seeds of salvation in someone's heart. Romans 10:14 asks,
"How can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?"
Do not underestimate the power of your testimony, your words, and your example. Today is the day to let your light shine brightly.
Conclusion
Church, this day is precious. It is a sacred gift from God. Let us live as if today is the most important day of our lives—because it truly is. Rejoice in the gift of breath, embrace your divine purpose, and celebrate each moment with joy, love, and a heart set on sharing God's salvation.
May we walk forward from this place with renewed purpose, living each day with the knowledge that God is at work in and through us. .
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of today. Thank You for filling our lungs with breath and our hearts with purpose. Help us to live this day fully for You, to love others deeply, and to shine Your light in all we do. May we walk in joy, knowing that each moment is an opportunity to serve and glorify You. Use us, Lord, to spread the message of salvation and bring hope to those in need. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Go and live today as heaven is watching!
