Heavenly Father, we come before You today, asking for Your presence and healing power to touch every heart that is struggling. We know that You are the ultimate healer, and no battle is too big for You. We pray that Your Word speaks to us today, bringing freedom, deliverance, and peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Good morning, church! Today, we are diving deep into a subject that many people struggle with silently—mental health battles like depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, dementia, and addiction. We often try to treat the surface symptoms with medicine or therapy, but we need to recognize that these struggles often have a deeper, spiritual root. These afflictions aren't just chemical imbalances or personality flaws; they can be manifestations of demonic forces seeking to destroy us from the inside out.
Now, I know this can sound a little intense, but stay with me. Today, we’re going to talk about how these demons work, how they get in, how they destroy, and how the only way to be healed and delivered is through Jesus Christ. We also need to look at the power of our words—how labeling ourselves with curses or speaking death over our situations can give the enemy a foothold in our lives.
Demons Gain Access—How They Get In
When it comes to mental health struggles, demons often gain access through wounds, trauma, unforgiveness, or even our words. It’s like leaving the door of your house unlocked and wondering how the burglars got in. We might open the door through negative experiences, but what about the words we speak over ourselves? What about labeling ourselves with things like “I’m crazy,” “I’ll never be normal,” or “I’m weak”? Those are self-imposed curses that give the enemy legal access to mess with our minds.
Schizophrenia and Dementia: Demons of Confusion and Delusion
Let’s talk specifically about schizophrenia and dementia. These are two conditions that often go unnoticed as spiritual battles, but they can be very much influenced by demonic forces.
Schizophrenia is often marked by delusions—the person might believe things that aren’t true, hear voices that aren’t there, or see things that others can’t see. While there are certainly physical and neurological explanations for these symptoms, they also fit the profile of demonic oppression.
These demonic spirits come to confuse the mind, distort reality, and cause the person to question what’s true. They often isolate the individual from others, making them feel like they can’t trust anyone, not even themselves. The devil loves to twist the truth and create chaos in our minds. If you’re dealing with these symptoms, know that God can heal your mind and cast out these lies.
Now, dementia is a slow, creeping attack on the mind, where a person begins to lose their memory, their identity, and their clarity of thought. Dementia demons work subtly—they start by stealing small pieces of your memory, making you forget simple things. Over time, they consume your ability to think clearly and affect your relationships. And just like schizophrenia, the enemy wants to rob you of who you are and confuse your identity in Christ.
How Demons Destroy from the Inside Out
So how do these demons destroy us? They start by attacking our thoughts, which lead to feelings, which then lead to actions. Let me give you an example: If you’re battling depression, it often starts as a single thought: “I’m worthless.” The next thing you know, that thought turns into feelings of hopelessness, which spirals into a belief that there’s no way out. You start to feel like you don’t matter, and you might even begin to isolate yourself. The demon of depression wants you to believe the lie that you’re stuck, that you’ll never get better, and that there’s no hope.
The same is true for anxiety. It starts as a small worry—a thought like, “What if I mess this up?” But over time, that thought multiplies. Now it becomes, “What if I fail completely? What if everyone thinks I’m a fraud? What if something bad happens to me or my loved ones?” The demon of anxiety wants to paralyze you with fear and keep you from experiencing the peace of God that passes all understanding.
And then, there’s addiction—whether it’s drugs, alcohol, pornography, food, or any other form of escape. It starts with one small compromise, and then the demon of addiction sets up camp in your life. Addiction is a spiritual prison. The longer you feed that demon, the tighter the chains become. The addiction demon doesn't care about your health, your relationships, or your future. It only wants to control you, make you feel weak, and keep you trapped in its cycle of destruction.
How Our Words Can Invite Demons In
Now, here’s something that many of us don’t realize: Our words have power. What you speak over yourself, over your mind, and over your life matters. In Proverbs 18:21, the Bible says,
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
We have a habit of labeling ourselves with negative terms. We say things like, “I’m just crazy,” or “I’ll never get better,” or “I can’t control myself.” These are curses that we speak over our own lives. We give the enemy a foothold when we claim these things as our identity. It’s like saying, “Here, demon, take control.”
Instead, we need to speak life and truth over ourselves. We need to say, “I am healed in Jesus' name. I am a child of God. I have the mind of Christ, and no weapon formed against me will prosper.” When you speak truth and declare victory, you are inviting God’s healing and protection into your life.
Only God Can Heal and Deliver You
So what do we do about all this? Only God has the power to heal us. No matter how deep the struggle, God’s power is deeper. No matter how loud the voices in your head are, God's voice is louder. And no matter how confused you may feel, God’s clarity is stronger.
Jesus said in Matthew 17:21,
“This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
If you want victory over these battles, you need to surrender fully to God, and you need to actively resist the enemy. Unyielding faith is the key. You’ve got to keep believing, keep trusting, and keep calling on the name of Jesus. No demon, no matter how powerful, can stand against the name of Jesus Christ.
Unyielding Faith and Surrender to Christ
But healing doesn’t always happen instantly, and I know that can be frustrating. There are times when it feels like the struggle will never end, but this is where unyielding faith comes in. Jesus said in Mark 11:24,
“Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
This doesn’t mean that everything will be perfect right away, but it means that God is working behind the scenes. You may not see the full picture yet, but keep your faith strong and trust that God is healing you step by step.
Surrender is key. You’ve got to be willing to say, “Lord, I can’t fix this on my own. I need You. I surrender this battle to You.” And in that surrender, God will move. When you resist the enemy and submit to God, the healing begins. Demons will flee, strongholds will be broken, and you will walk in freedom.
Conclusion
Church, I want to leave you with this powerful truth: There is healing in the name of Jesus. If you're struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction, schizophrenia, or dementia, know that God is able to heal you. You are not powerless. You do not have to give in to the enemy’s lies. The battle is spiritual, but the victory is in Christ.
You don’t have to fight this alone. Call out to God, speak life over yourself, and keep pressing in with unwavering faith. God is your healer, your deliverer, and your protector. And no demon can stand against the power of His name.
Let’s pray.
Father, we come to You today asking for Your healing power to touch every heart here. We surrender our struggles, our fears, and our addictions to You. We speak life over ourselves today, and we declare victory in the name of Jesus. Lord, heal our minds, our bodies, and our spirits. Cast out every demon that seeks to destroy us, and fill us with Your peace, Your strength, and Your love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
