Starting Each Day Surrendered to God

Good morning, church! Today, we’re going to talk about something so simple, yet so powerful—it can change the course of your entire life. It’s about how we start each day. Not by rushing out the door, grabbing our phones, or worrying about the to-do list, but by surrendering ourselves to God the moment we wake up.

Here’s the truth: If you woke up this morning, it wasn’t by accident. God breathed life into you for a purpose. Every day you’re alive is another chance to live for His glory and fulfill His plan for you. So let’s talk about why surrendering your day to God matters and how to do it.

Waking Up Is a Gift from God

Psalm 3:5 says,

“I lay down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.”

Think about that for a moment. The very act of waking up is a miracle. While you slept, God kept your heart beating, your lungs breathing, and your body functioning.

When you wake up, it’s not just because your alarm clock went off—it’s because God has given you another day. Another opportunity to love Him, serve Him, and make a difference in His kingdom. That’s something to be thankful for, isn’t it?

Every day you’re alive is a reminder that God isn’t finished with you yet. You have a purpose, and it’s up to you to seek Him and ask, “Lord, what do You want me to do today?”

Surrender Starts with Humility

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us,

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Starting your day by surrendering to God means acknowledging that you don’t have all the answers—but He does. It’s about saying, “God, I can’t do this on my own. I need Your wisdom, Your strength, and Your guidance.”

And let’s be honest, church: How many times have we tried to run the day our way, only to end up stressed, frustrated, or overwhelmed? Surrendering to God isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s the smartest thing you can do.

Begin on Your Knees

If you want to start your day surrendered to God, here’s a practical tip: Start on your knees. Before you check your phone, turn on the news, or grab your coffee, get on your knees and pray.

Jesus Himself modeled this for us. Mark 1:35 says,

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”

If Jesus, the Son of God, prioritized time with the Father first thing in the morning, how much more should we?

Your morning prayer doesn’t have to be fancy or long. It can be as simple as this:

“Lord, thank You for this day. Thank You for waking me up and giving me another chance to serve You. Show me Your will for today. Guide my thoughts, my words, and my actions. Help me to love others and bring glory to You in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

When you start your day like this, you’re giving God the driver’s seat. You’re saying, “Lord, You lead; I’ll follow.”

Every Day Is an Opportunity to Serve

Ephesians 2:10 reminds us,

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Every day, God has a purpose for you. It might not always be big or flashy, but it’s significant in His kingdom. Maybe it’s a kind word to a stranger, a prayer for someone in need, or being patient with a difficult coworker.

When you ask God each morning, “Lord, how can I serve You today?” you’re opening yourself up to divine appointments. You’re saying, “Use me, Lord, for Your glory.”

Surrender Brings Peace and Direction

One of the greatest benefits of starting your day surrendered to God is the peace and direction it brings. Philippians 4:6-7 says,

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

When you surrender your day to God, you’re handing over your worries, your plans, and your struggles. You’re saying, “Lord, this is bigger than me, but it’s not bigger than You.” And in exchange, God gives you peace and clarity.

Surrender Every Day, Not Just Some Days

Here’s the thing about surrender—it’s not a one-time event. It’s a daily choice. Luke 9:23 says,

“Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me.”

Some days, it’s easy to surrender. Other days, it’s a struggle. But no matter how you feel, surrendering to God every morning sets the tone for the entire day. It aligns your heart with His will and keeps you focused on what truly matters.

Conclusion: Start Your Day with God

Church, let me challenge you: Tomorrow morning, before you do anything else, get on your knees and surrender your day to God. Thank Him for the gift of life, ask Him for guidance, and commit yourself to serving Him.

When you start your day with God, you’re not just checking off a box—you’re inviting Him into every part of your life. And when God is at the center, everything changes.

Let’s pray,

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of today. Thank You for waking us up and giving us another chance to live for You. Lord, we surrender our plans, our worries, and our desires to You. Guide our steps, open our hearts, and show us how we can serve You and others today. Teach us to seek You first each morning and to trust You in every moment. Let our lives bring You glory, and may we always remember that every day is a gift to be used for Your purpose. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
