Give It to God and Let It Go

Good morning, Church! Let me ask you something – have you ever tried to fix something that wasn’t yours to fix? Maybe it’s that coworker who seems allergic to common sense. Or that family member you keep trying to "subtly" nudge into making better life choices. Or maybe it’s your job, your marriage, your health – things that keep you up at night, playing every scenario in your head like you're the director of your own personal soap opera.
Here's the thing – sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we just can’t fix it. And that’s because it’s not ours to fix. This is where we hear that still, small voice saying, "Give it to Me. I got this." But what do we do? "Yes, Lord, I’m giving it to You...but let me just tinker with it a little, just in case You need backup."
That's not faith. That’s project management. And last I checked, God doesn’t need an assistant manager.
Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
And Matthew 11:28 says,
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
The Problem of Not Letting Go
We have this habit of handing our problems to God, but keeping a little piece for ourselves – just in case. It's like ordering something from Amazon, but then driving to the warehouse because you don't trust the delivery guy. It’s exhausting, isn’t it?
When we pray and say, "God, I trust You," but we’re still trying to pull strings behind the scenes, it’s like telling Him, "I trust You...kinda." And the Bible says that's not how faith works. James 1:6 says,
"But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind."
Faith means stepping back, unclenching your fists, and saying, "God, I trust You enough to stop meddling."
The Danger of Being a Control Freak
Let’s be honest – some of us have a hard time letting go because we like to be in control. We’re the planners, the fixers, the "if you want it done right, do it yourself" people. But here's the hard truth – trying to control everything is exhausting and it goes against the very foundation of faith.
Faith acknowledges that God is in control at all times. When we try to micromanage situations beyond our grasp, we’re essentially saying, "God, I don’t think You’re handling this the way I would." That’s not faith; that’s pride wrapped in anxiety. Proverbs 19:21 says,
"Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails."
Trying to control everything isn’t just tiring – it’s fruitless. True peace comes from releasing control and trusting that God’s got it all handled.
Why We Delay Our Blessings
Here's the kicker – when we refuse to let go, we actually delay the blessing God wants to give us. Imagine God’s ready to hand you peace, but your hands are too full with anxiety and control. You can’t receive what God has for you until you make room by letting go.
It’s like holding on to a rusty old bike when God’s trying to give you a brand-new car. "But what if I need the bike, Lord?" No, trust Him.
Sticking to Your Convictions
Another thing – some of us know the right thing to do. God’s made it clear. But we’re out here polling our friends and family, seeking validation like we’re running for office. Listen, if God’s already given you the answer, you don’t need a second opinion.
It’s like driving around the block twenty times when your GPS is screaming, "Just turn left already!" Stop stalling. Obedience saves time.
The Waiting Game
Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room – waiting. Waiting is hard. Sometimes it feels like God’s on a lunch break while we’re out here pacing the floor. But remember, just because you can’t see Him working doesn’t mean He’s not. Faith isn’t about feeling good while you wait; it’s about trusting God even when you’re uncomfortable. Isaiah 40:31 says,
"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles."
Waiting is where your faith grows muscles. And trust me, God’s timing is better than ours.
Letting It Go
Giving it to God means saying, "It is finished." Once you’ve laid it down at His feet, don’t keep picking it back up. Walk away with the peace that comes from knowing God’s got this. That problem? It’s now officially part of your past.
Closing Prayer
Lord, we thank You for being a God who hears us, who loves us, and who carries our burdens when we can’t. Help us to trust You completely. Give us the faith to let go and the patience to wait for Your perfect timing. We release the things we cannot control into Your hands today. May we walk forward in peace, knowing that it is finished. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
