Are All Children Born Pure?

Good morning, church! Today, we’re talking about a beautiful and powerful truth—all children are born pure.
I know, you’re probably thinking, "Hold up, pastor. Kids are pure? Have you seen my toddler throw a tantrum in the middle of Wal-Mart?" Trust me, I get it. But stick with me because there’s something incredibly profound about how God sees our children, and it’s going to change how we think about the little ones around us—whether they’re our own, our neighbor’s, or those who may not even be born yet.
What Does the Bible Say About Children?
Let’s start with some good ol’ Bible verses to lay the foundation:
Matthew 18:3: "And he said: ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.’"Jesus didn’t say, “Become like perfect little adults,” or “Be all buttoned up and perfect.” He said, like little children—innocent, trusting, pure. There’s something about a child’s heart that is closer to the Kingdom of God than we often realize.
Psalm 127:3: "Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him."Children are a gift from God, not an inconvenience, not a burden, and definitely not someone to be tossed aside. They are valuable to God and, therefore, should be valued by us.
Jeremiah 1:5: "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born I set you apart." God knew us before we even took our first breath! And He doesn’t just know us like, “Oh, I know about them,” but in a deep, personal way. He has a purpose for every life, from the moment of conception, and that includes every child—born or unborn.
The Purity of Children
So, here’s the kicker: Children are born pure. That doesn’t mean they come out of the womb perfect (I mean, they cry, they poop, they throw their food everywhere), but they come into this world without the weight of sin. They haven’t made choices yet that separate them from God. In a sense, they are spiritually untainted when they arrive.
Now, you might be saying, "Okay, pastor, I hear you, but you don't know my kid." Believe me, I get it. Parenting is hard. But even in their tantrums, their messy moments, and their “why is this kid putting his shoes in the fridge?!” moments, they are still pure in God's eyes.
Here’s the thing: God’s view of children doesn’t change when they mess up or act up. He sees them as precious, as beings full of potential and pure hearts—ready to grow into the people He intended them to be. In God’s eyes, they’re not “imperfect,” they’re perfectly made to be who they are.
Why Some Children Are Aborted
Let’s talk about a heavy topic here, one that’s difficult, yet necessary. Abortion. It’s one of the most tragic things happening in our world today. Every time a child’s life is ended before it even has a chance to begin, we mourn not just the life lost, but the potential that’s destroyed.
But here’s where we need to remember that God loves all children—the ones who are born and the ones who are never born. And the truth is, the enemy (Satan) has an agenda to destroy children. He’s always been after God’s creation because children are a direct reminder of God's creativity, His love, and His plan for the future. Satan wants to take away God’s gifts before they can even shine.
Satan is no fool. He knows that children are pure, and he is terrified of their potential. He knows that if children grow up in the truth of God’s love, they can change the world. So, what does he do? He uses fear, lies, manipulation, and false narratives to convince people that children don’t matter. He creates confusion about what life is and tries to make people believe that it’s okay to destroy what God has created.
But here’s the truth: God is the author of life, not Satan. And He calls each and every child a gift, a blessing, and a treasure—no matter when or how they come into the world.
Life Begins at Conception
Let’s take a moment to address something that’s often misunderstood or intentionally ignored: Life begins at conception. It’s not something that starts when a baby takes their first breath, and it’s definitely not something that magically happens at the nine-month mark. No, life begins the moment that egg is fertilized. The Bible makes it clear that God knew us before we were even formed in the womb—before we even existed physically (Psalm 139:13-16). He’s known us from the very first moment of our creation.
Now, the world might say, “Well, it’s just a clump of cells,” or “It’s not really a life yet,” but we have to look at it from God’s perspective. Life is sacred, and God doesn’t make mistakes. He doesn’t wait around to decide if something is “worthy” of life when it’s nine months old. No, He is the Creator of life, and He calls every child precious from the very moment of conception.
The world might try to twist this truth, saying, “Oh, you can’t call it a life until it’s fully developed,” but God sees the potential of life from the start. He’s there at conception, shaping, forming, and giving that life its purpose and direction. That baby is not a blob of tissue, not just some random collection of cells—it’s a child, and God loves that child from the start.
And let’s be clear: Life is sacred to God at all stages, from conception to birth and beyond. No human being has the right to take it away, and no human law should be able to redefine what God has called life. Abortion is not just a political issue; it’s a moral issue, a God issue. It’s the destruction of something that was designed and destined by God Himself.
So, let’s say it loud and clear—Life begins at conception, and that is the truth from God’s Word. When we stand up for the unborn, we’re standing up for the truth that God’s design is perfect, and every child has a right to life, from the very first moment they’re conceived.
God’s Love for Children
Now, let’s talk about the love that God has for children. It’s a love that never wavers, no matter what mistakes they make or how many times they fall. God’s love for children is unconditional, and He wants us to love them in the same way. In fact, He made it clear in Matthew 19:14, when He said: "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
God’s love for children is unshakable, and it’s up to us, as His people, to protect and nurture this love. If God holds children in such high regard, shouldn’t we be doing everything we can to honor and protect them as well? Shouldn’t we stand up against the lies and destruction that the enemy tries to sow into their lives?
We need to teach our children the truth about God’s love, and we need to create a world where children are protected, cared for, and raised to know that they are pure in God’s eyes, no matter what this world may try to tell them.
Satan’s Agenda to Destroy Children
The reality is, Satan’s primary target is the next generation. And guess what? He doesn’t play fair. He’s working overtime to get into the hearts and minds of our children. He’s using everything from media to cultural lies to political agendas to confuse, distract, and destroy. Whether it’s through violence, abuse, or pushing a message that children don’t have value, the enemy is doing everything he can to steal the pure hearts of our young ones.
But here's the catch: We serve a God who is more powerful than the enemy. God’s purpose for children is always to give them hope and a future—to protect them, guide them, and see them grow in truth. And that is why we, as believers, need to be proactive in protecting them from the darkness. The more we teach them about God’s love, the more we help them discover who they truly are as children of God.
A Call to Action: Protecting Our Children
So, what can we do in the face of this attack on our children? We need to guard them—physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Teach them that they are precious in God’s eyes, and that they are worthy of love, dignity, and respect.
We need to pray for them, protect them from evil influences, and guide them in the truth of God’s Word. We also need to speak out against abortion, against the lies of the enemy that devalue life, and against any culture that teaches that children are expendable.
Conclusion
God made all children pure, beautiful, and full of potential. Whether they are born or unborn, they are valuable to Him. Satan’s agenda is to destroy that purity, but we can stand firm in the truth that God’s love for our children is unshakable and eternal.
Let’s commit today to protect the children in our lives, to pray for them, to raise them in the truth, and to never let the enemy’s lies take root in their hearts.
Let’s pray
Father God, we thank You for the gift of children. We thank You for their purity, their innocence, and their potential. We ask for Your protection over them, and we pray that You would raise up this generation to be mighty warriors for Your Kingdom. Help us to be faithful stewards of the children You have entrusted to us, and to never let the lies of the enemy take root in their hearts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
God bless you all! Let’s protect and love the children, because they are precious in God’s sight.
